<TITLE>The SRE-Filter Configurator: Expert Mode </TITLE>

<BODY bgcolor="#40C541">
<h1 align="center"> <img src="/imgs/srefiltr.gif" align="middle"a> The SRE-Filter Configurator: Expert Mode </h1>
<blockquote>The expert mode configurator is just a polite way of saying <b>don't be
afraid</b> of editing SRE-Filter's parameter files.</blockquote>
The following TABLE lists the various SRE-Filter parameter files, and a short
description of what they do. All of these are ascii (text) files, and should
be edited with your favorite text editor (we favor OS/2's EPM editor).
<table>
<th>File Name </th> <th>Function </th> <tr>
<td><STRONG>INITFILT.80</STRONG> </td>
<td> Contains basic configuration parameters; such as HOST information, logon and access
control activiation flags, default document directives, ad infinitum.</td>
<tr>
<td><STRONG><STRONG>USERS.IN </STRONG></STRONG></td> <td> Contains username & and password information. It also contains
the various "client-specific privileges" available to each user.</td>
<tr>
<td><STRONG>ALL_FILE.CTL</STRONG></td>
<td>Contains SEL-specific access controls, and SEL-specific "permissions" </td> </td>
<tr>
<Td> <STRONG>ALIASES.IN</STRONG> </td> <td> Contains re-direction aliases, both <codE>internal</code>
and <code>external</code>. <em> Internal re-direction aliases are
also used to implement searchable indices.</em>
<tr>
<td><STRONG>VIRTUAL.IN </STRONG></td> <td> Contains <code>local</code> and <code>remote</code>
virtual directory information.</td>
<tr>
<td><STRONG>RECRDALL.CNT </STRONG></td> <td> Contains basic audit information (number of hits
per file or per selector). You may wish to add some "wildcard" entries to this file.
<tr>
<td><STRONG>REPSTRGS.IN</STRONG> </td><td> Contains "custom" replacement strings (used by the
<!-- REPLACE varname --> SSI keyphrase).
<tr><td><STRONG>SREFLOGS.INI</STRONG> </td><td> The configuration file for the
common-log, browser-log, and referer-log audit files.</td>
</table>
<p>
<h3>Notes</h3>
<ul>
<LI> The SREFILTR.80 file (as well as SREFQUIK.80) contains a few
additional configuration parameters. INITFILT.DOC discusses the purpose of these
<em>more obscure</em> configuation parameters.
<LI>
Except for INITFILT.80, the above files can be found in the WORKDATA_DIR directory (which currently is:
<!-- replace variable.workdata_dir-->). INITFILT.80 will be in the GoServe
working directory (currently:<!-- REPLACE variable.servdir -->).
<LI>
Note that the "distribution copy"
of these files contain a detailed (and up-to-date) description of the purpose
and syntax of the file. An important exception to this is INITFILT.80 -- for
a description of what INITFILT.80 does, you can read INITFILT.DOC

<p> You may also want to review some of SRE-Filter's help files:
<uL>
<li> We <b>recommend</b> starting with the <a href="/samples/guide.htm"> users guide</a>.
<li> The <a href="/samples/srefiltr.htm"> SRE-Filter manual</a> contains a rather
lengthy (but still too short)
discussion of most of SRE-Filter's bells and whistles.
<li> The <a href="/samples/initfilt.doc"> description of INITFILT.80 </a>
gives a detailed description of SRE-Filter's user configurable parameters.
<li> The <a href="/samples/summary.htm">SRE-Filter summary</a> provides
a general overview of the capabilities of SRE-Filter.
<li> The <a href="/samples/helplist.htm"> list of help files </a> summarizes the
various help documents supplied with SRE-Filter.
<li>The <a href="/samples/OUTLINE.HTM">SRE-Filter outline</a> describes
the steps that SRE-Filter follows when processing a request.
